Through another log on the fire.
There are consultants, Working Groups, Conferences, Blogs, Tweets ... you name it out there trying to help everyone understand the idea or business intent of something called Information Management. So why this one?
Because this is going to speak the truth. And the truth is, habits have set in, and these habits are lost the dicipline of including 'looking after' (dare I say managing) the information.
Let's be clear. The idea of information Management is not complex. What distinguishes this "management" from other managements, is that this one tell's you how and when to get rid of or delete something. Time Management doesn't do that. Get riding of information seems silly given the idea that IT keeps everything. But we all know now that IT only keeps it until the next verison comes along.
We also know that big words like accountability and historical seem to factor in there too. So, long story short, records management (the heart of Information Management) if grafted onto the way people work, will allow for the process to not get weighted down (or bogged down) in mountain of information.
The intent of future posts will be to help people paid to this job, and others who are curious about what to do with all this "stuff" in their office. Help them make sense of it. There are plenty of other guys out there saying their thing. That is fine. But this blog will serve to bring back a discipline in a way that allows each user to see their role and what they can do it about it.
